Here is a link to a great new infographic called Empowered Digital Citizens Guide for Educators.
ISTE (The International Society for Technology in Education https://www.iste.org/) recently defined the “New Digital Citizenship” as Empowering Proactive Digital Learners on a new poster [see article]. This infographic created by Lisa Nielsen and designed by Eileen Lennon is featured on Lisa’s blog and states “If we want to prepare students for the world in which they live, then life inside school should resemble life outside of school. The role of the modern educator is to ensure students understand how to use digital resources responsibly and effectively for college, career, and citizenship success.”
“If we want to prepare students for the world in which they live, then life inside school should resemble life outside of school.”
The infographic is large and contains many sections. You will enjoy reading it as you scroll down and down and down through all of the items. Most of the sections contain tips or best practices like the example to the right which focuses on classroom management techniques in the digital classroom.
There are great tips and advice for using social media platforms like Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Instant messaging programs like iMessage, Yahoo Messenger, and Skype are also discussed along with discussing the positive effects of texting on literacy.
Music sites like Spotify, Apple Music, or Google Play Music are mentioned with suggestions on how they may be used appropriately in class settings.
The infographic also mentions sites and topics for more research, and links to the ISTE standards.
